My Big Quest Step @ Big Top Chautauqua Backstage Open Mike

I Performed

It was Valentines Day 2024.

Actually … evening.

Our kidz waited at home while we went out for some music.

Every Wednesday 6:00 PM to 9:00 The Big Top hosts an Open Mike session. This was my third time to attend. And my first to perform.

When you would like to enjoy a free concert in in a comfortable setting
showcasing local musical and performance talent,
look up Backstage at the Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua.
Drinks and Appetizers are also available.

Tom Mitchell was the Big Top host/MC. He did a great job of connecting with the audience and encouraging people to treat the auditorium as a Listening Room. Respecting this, the auditorium offered a welcoming environment. He told a story … or maybe a parable … about the need to get out of the kitchen. If wannabe performers don’t get out of the house, they are only playing Kitchen Music.

When Tom called for “Jake”, I was primed. While Keenan (Sound Man) was helping me get set up, I mentioned to the audience that this would be my first performance that wasn’t limited to family, friends, and associates. Since I had purchased my first guitar in 1976, it was fair to say I have been performing Kitchen Music for 48 years. I think that got a laugh.

This was a big step for me, and it is a key to the success of my Quest. You can find my Quest background story here.

The audience had been very apreciative and supportive of all the performers to this point. That helped calm my nerves … for a while.

Then I flubbed … and flubbed.

Thanks to my wife’s videography assistance, I have some great Quality Control information that should help me. It didn’t take long to develop a list of 11 things I should work on to improve my performance. Whew!!

Please. Feel free to laugh when you watch the video. I do, and I hope you find it entertaining.

Please leave a comment … hopefully an encouraging one … but I am open to all input.
